Welcome to North American Interlockings. I started this site to keep the memories of towers alive. Some of the older railfans first encounter with the railroad was visiting a tower and spending time with a friendly operator, seeing trains pass and watching him go about his duties of keeping the trains moving through the "plant". Inside they all seemed to be the same, the smell of the special grease for the rods, the constant chatter of the dispatchers line and the ding of the bell, signaling someone was "on the circuit". Another reason for the site is to introduce the younger generation of railfans to interlockings and the vital role they once played. I'm hoping that many people will view and enjoy the site and perhaps it will bring back many pleasant memories especially to the ex operators. Please email me with any comments, suggestions, criticisms or corrections so the information can be adjusted. Feel free to contribute information and hopefully pictures too.
